Biological age

Is it possible to age in reverse?

In Mitochondrial DNA I wrote about the energetic theory of ageing, also called the reactive oxygen species theory of ageing, that suggests degradation of our mitochondrial function is the mechanism by which we age.

Most people on the standard American diet (SAD) live comfortable lives without regular cold exposure. As a consequence, their mitochondria are eriously damaged.

I used to be one of those people, until i fixed my diet, lost 50lb and started ice baths.

Patrick Porter, PhD and co-founder of BrainTap has been tracking my biological age, based upon the electrical activity in my body.

He says that in the last two years, I've been ageing backwards in a sense. That is, my energetic profile is more typical of a 30 year old male living in a typical industrialized country than the 56 year old I actually am.

I don't know if that says more about me, or the typical 30 year old.

I do know that ageing as we have come to expect it in the United States, is optional.
